Book Summary of The Tattooed Fakir

About the Book: The Tattooed Fakir

The Tattooed Fakir is an elegant story set in eighteenth century Bengal about a lesser known part of Indian history, the political climate of that era and the deep emotions that it provokes. The second book by author Bikram Nath, this is an epic tale of love, loss, helplessness, rage and an undying thirst for revenge.

Set in eighteenth century Bengal, the book centres around the political climate of that era when India was under the British Raj. It starts with the kidnapping of a young woman. Roshanara is beautiful beyond description and catches the eye of the local village zamindar (land owner). The British sahib who is the owner of the indigo plantation intervenes in the matter but is so taken by Roshanara's beauty that he decides to keep her as his mistress. But Roshanara is no local village belle, she is the daughter of a fakir, a tribe intent on raging guerrilla warfare against the British. Her husband, Ashif, feels that there is nothing more left for him in the village and joins the fakirs, training with them in the use of arms and ammunitions and fighting with them against the British Raj. But he still grieves for his Roshanara. Does Asif manage to free his beloved? Who is the fierce tattooed fakir that everyone speaks of?
