This series by Pebble Bilingual Books about character development has a fatal flaw: no child will sit through these books. They are dry and all moral. The child featured in the accompanying photographs performs good deeds gladly; she helps her grandparents with their puzzle, helps her sister clean, helps her teacher hand out paper, and works cooperatively on a group assignment at school. The book illustrates many examples of cooperation, but because the child's virtue of cooperation is presented factually, "I am cooperative. I do my part," the reader does not need to figure out that she is being cooperative. There is little room for discussion as to the child's cooperation, and no demonstration of the fact that it may be difficult to work successfully with others. She must not undergo any character development in order to be cooperative, nor struggle with uncooperative persons in her own efforts to be a team player.
