Book Summary of Portable Roots - A Saga Of The Tamil Dia...

(Paperback)

Portable Roots is a transcreation of a Tamil novel Ini (which means ""Hereafter"") written in 1993, reflecting on what makes a country, city or village, 'home'. The novel tells the story of a Tamil family, buffeted by the stormy waters of an alien culture. It is about the clash of cultures between the generation that moved from India to the U,S. and those who were born there and spent their early, impressionable years in a different culture. It touches upon the yawning gap between the generations, and the frail bridge that only love can build. In the ruthless tug of war between tradition and the brave new world of the future, who will win? This is the dilemma that involves the reader in a thought-provoking modern drama.

A fast paced novel, it dwells on the web of human relationship, their fragile transience and unassailable strengths.
