I love this book!!! Having been a camper for many years I found this book to be so much fun and it brought back so many wonderful camp memories. My children who are too young to go to sleepaway camp (Ages 5 and 3 1/2) saw the book on my nightstand and asked me to read it to them. They loved the letters and it is now a nightime ritual. We read the letters over and over again and always giggle together. It is pure reading fun. I highly recommend this book and it is the prefect gift to buy all your friends whose children are going to sleepaway camp for the first time.
This book is hilarious...having sent my own daughter to camp for several years, I can relate to it. Its funny, pithy and rings true to what a mother can get in those letters. As I rarely do, I laughed out loud when I ready this one. Its a quick fun read, and its a great book to read WITH your kids BEFORE they go to camp to get everyone ready for the journey. Thanks to the author for pulling together such a clever grouping of letters for all of us to enjoy! LB
I have sent three kids to camp and have always laughed (or cried) reading their letters. I used to read them to my friends and family. I found that everyone always enjoys reading a child's perspective when they're away from home. This book brought back all those memories of running to the mailbox each day looking for a letter. When I read this book, I couldn't help remembering those days. It is so funny and well organized. I leave it out on my coffee table and people like picking it up and reading a letter out loud. I highly recommend it to anyone who's gone to camp, had a child attend, or just want to be entertained.
My husband and I keep picking it up and reading passages aloud. If our kids only knew how entertaining their letters are! Buy a bunch of copies, and pack them up in care packages to send to friends you know who are horrified about sending their precious babies to camp for the first time. This book will immediately put them at ease. Don't forget to pack candy!
I sat down and read "P.S. I Hate It Here" with my kids -- and we all found something hilarious in this book. I was taken back to my own camp experiences, and my boys offered up a few camp stories of their own (many I hadn't heard before!). Being away at camp is a universal experience...it didn't matter that I was a camper decades ago and my kids are fresh off recent camp experiences, we could all relate to this book. I ended up with a good laugh and a delightful hour with my kids!
