Book Summary of Mumbai Where Dreams Don't Die

(Hardbound )

Mumbai has been extensively photographed over the past century. Like New York, it is a city full of men and women with aspirations of making it big in life. Mumbai is also known as a dream factory because of the overwhelming presence of its film industry, one of the biggest in the world. This book collects nearly three decades of the work of Raghu Rai, one of India's foremost photojournalists. The pictures encompass life in all its manifestations— from the high-rise skyscrapers to the gushing waves of the Arabian Sea. It shows movement and activity that almost never ceases— fairs and festivities, political demonstrations, films in the making and the advertising and modelling scene.

RAGHU RAI has been a member of Magnum since 1977. During his long and distinguished career, he has won many international awards and has been honoured with the Padmashree, one of India's highest cultural awards, in 1971, and 'The Photographer of The Year' for his story 'The Human Management of Wildlife in India' which was published in the National Geographic. His photo-essays have appeared in many of the world's leading magazines and newspapers including Time, Life, GEO, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, Newsweek and The New Yorker. In the last twenty years, Raghu Rai has specialised in extensive coverage of India and has produced more than twenty-four books, among them , Raghu Rai's Delhi, The Sikhs, Calcutta, Khajuraho, Taj Mahal and Tibet in Exile . He lives in New Delhi with his family.

VIR SANGHVI is among India's leading print and TV journalists and a writer. Currently, he is Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times.
