About the Book: The Litigators
The Partners at Finley & Figg pose as an upmarket law firm but in reality are a small, desperate little outfit looking for the opportunity that will change their fortunes. The opportunists' areas of specialization are quickie divorces and DUIs-with the odd car wreck thrown in. Now, after 20 years together, Oscar Finley and Wally Figg manage to make a living from their seedy headquarters in southwest Chicago.
Then comes the big change. David Zinc, a jaded young attorney, abandons his hotshot career at a posh downtown firm, goes on a major bender and lands up on the veritable doorstep of Finley & Figg. When he sobers up and realizes he is in need of employment, the firm finds a new junior partner. Not a moment too soon. The firm is preparing for a huge case, one that could leave them flush with money without their having to do anything.
Krayoxx , the top cholesterol reducer for the morbidly overweight, produced by Varrick Labs, a large pharmaceutical company which boasts annual sales of 25 billion dollar, has recently been hauled up as several clients who consume it have had heart attacks. The firm scents an opportunity-they discover that a big plaintiff's firm in Florida is shaping a class action suit against Varrick. All F&F need is a few sufferers who had a heart attack while on Krayoxx and persuade them to sign up and take part in the class action suit-taking them all to great fame and fortune. In fact, they might not even have to enter a courtroom! Is their idea to good to be true?
