This thoroughly updated Second Edition is a comprehensive, practical guide to all current techniques and procedural aspects of interventional electrophysiology. A leading international group of experts describes in depth the procedures and techniques, the rationale for their use, and the available alternatives. Complementing the text are more than 600 illustrations, including spatially oriented "how-to" line drawings, radiographs, and conceptual diagrams. This edition features an extensively updated program of illustrations and includes the latest information on dual chamber defibrillators, atrial defibrillators and ablation techniques, and ablation and catheters.

This book is intended to provide a unified reference that focuses on the techniques and procedural aspects of interventional electrophysiology. Whereas the diagnosis of arrhythmias and the current state of research in clinical electrophysiology are well covered in other texts, the practical aspects on how to treat have tended to be superficially covered. Not only does this text provide invaluable information concerning treatment techniques, it does so relatively thoroughly in a single book. As such, it is a useful reference for the practicing electrophysiologist and a great tool to provide systematic teaching for training fellows. The intended audience includes training and practicing electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and cardiac surgeons interested in electrophysiology. It manages to strike a balance with this ""diverse"" audience by stressing practical techniques that are not well covered in other sources. As a an electrophysiologist, I find the descriptions of the procedures clear and focused, with the right amount of detail. There is little frill, pomp, or circumstance. The book could easily be titled, ""This is how I do it."" The contributors are well known. The tables, electrograms, and pictures are very clear. The reproductions of fluoroscopy are beautiful. The sections are well organized and complete. All in all, this text is a welcome addition to our literature, filing a needed niche quite well. I highly recommend it.

Description: This book is intended to provide a unified reference that focuses on the techniques and procedural aspects of interventional electrophysiology.
Purpose: Whereas the diagnosis of arrhythmias and the current state of research in clinical electrophysiology are well covered in other texts, the practical aspects on how to treat have tended to be superficially covered. Assessment: All in all, this text is a welcome addition to our literature, filing a needed niche quite well. I highly recommend it.
New edition of a text on the subspecialty of cardiology that involves therapy of complex arrhythmias using catheter-based interventions, implantable devices, and cardiac surgical techniques. Part I focuses on interventional catheter-based approaches to ablation of accessory pathways, atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardias, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia. Each of the chapters discusses both established and new techniques and presents electrophysiologic mechanisms and outcomes of each approach. Part II covers device-based therapies, with a focus upon procedural aspects, as well as newer technologies and developments. Illustrated with b&w images and charts. Edited by Igor Singer, U. of Louisville School of Medicine. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
Provides thorough and comprehensive coverage of interventionalcardiac electrophysiology, for students and practitioners who needpractical information (most texts on the subject are long on theory).Describes the procedural aspects of interventional techniques, therationale for their use, and the available alternatives; and capturesthe recent advances in electrophysiology including developments inablation techniques, catheter design, new energy sources, anddefibrillator and pacing technology.Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
