Book Summary of The Devotion Of Suspect X

(Paperback)

About the Book: The Devotion of Suspect X

A gripping crime novel, The Devotion of Suspect X is a very clever mystery novel originally written in Japanese and translated into English. This is Keigo Higashino's first major English publication. While one already knows who the killer is in the first chapter, the book takes an unexpected turn and leaves the reader gasping in surprise by the time they reach the last chapter.

Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced, single mother who thought she had finally gotten rid of her abusive ex-husband. She now lives a quiet life, working in a Tokyo bento shop and taking care of her only teenage child. Her life is shattered when her ex-husband appears at her door without warning one day. He tries to extort money from her, threatening both her and her teenaged daughter Misato, and the situation quickly escalates into violence. Now Detective Kusanagi of the Tokyo Police has the most puzzling, mysterious case he has ever investigated.

Nothing in the case makes sense and the detective realises that it will take a genius to understand this particular crime. In steps Dr. Manabu Yukawa, a physicist and college friend who frequently consults with the police. But he too soon realises that he faces his most clever and determined opponent yet.

Intricate and beguiling... if you like riddles inside enigmas, it will please you no end.-Guardian

The plot is taut and intriguing... this psychological driver sets it apart from more run-of-the-mill crime thrillers... Agatha Christie would be mightily impressed-Financial Times
