Farrukh Dhondy was born in Pune in 1944. After graduating in physics from Wadia College, he won a scholarship to Cambridge to train as a quantum physicist but ended up reading for a BA in English. He has lived in England since and has worked as a teacher, and as a commissioning editor at Channel 4 television. Dhondy's first collection of stories, East End at Your Feet, was published in 1977. He is the author of Come to Mecca, Run!, Poona Company, Bombay Duck, and C.L.R. James: A Life. He also writes screenplays for films, television, and for the stage.
