The new edition of the now classic Adam's Outline of Fractures - prepared by authors working in the UK - has been updated to include the latest conservative and surgical approaches to the management of fractures. Suitable for medical undergraduates and trainee surgeons, as well as nurses and physiotherapists working in trauma services, this classic text continues to offer a sound basis for the safe and effective management of musculoskeletal injuries.
Reviewer:It is now 50 years since John Crawford Adams' publication of the first edition. This update responds to the current advances in fracture management by including newer surgical procedures without omitting important proven principles of injury care. I highly recommend this work to medical students and junior orthopedic, trauma, and emergency medicine trainees.
Description:
Purpose:This is the twelfth edition of a book that covers in general the management of fractures and joint injuries in adults and children.
Audience:The purpose is to provide a sound understanding of the management of musculoskeletal injuries by incorporating both recent surgical advances and proven conservative treatments.
Features:It is written for junior orthopedic trainees, medical students, and allied professionals such as physical and occupational therapists and nurses. The authors are both highly qualified to author this work. David L. Hamblen, PhD, DSc, FRCS, is emeritus professor of orthopedic surgery at University of Glasgow and A. Hamish Simpson, DM, FRCS is a professor of orthopedics and trauma at University of Edinburgh.
Assessment:The 17 chapters are organized mainly along anatomical areas. New chapters cover the important topics of osteoporosis and fragility fractures and advances in cell biology and molecular genetics. The photographs, illustrations, tables, and radiographs are of superior quality. The authors elect not to use references at the end of chapters, instead providing a brief section of further readings
